Hi guys, this week I would be talking about this film trilogy called The Lord of the rings that began in 2001 by Peter Jackson.
As we know, its first film was called the fellowship of the ring, the second one called the two towers in 2002, and the last one released in 2003, The return of the king. This movie was directed by Peter Jackson, produced by Barrie M. Osborne, Fran Walsh, Mark Ordesky, written by Fran Walsh. This films is notable by the use of visual effects, which means physical effects and CGI effects in the entire movie. According to an official source which is Wikipedia, was considered to be one of the biggest and most ambitious movie projects ever undertaken, with a budget of $285 million, in which this film took about eight years, with the filming for all three films done simultaneously and entirely in Jackson's native New Zealand.
This movie was a great financial success, in which it was considered one of the fifth highest-grossing film series of all time behind Harry Potter, James Bond, Star Wars, and Shrek. The films were critically acclaimed and heavily awarded, winning 17 out of 30 Academy Awards nominated in total. The last movie released in 2003, The Return of the King, won all 11 of the Academy Awards for which it was nominated, Academy Awards received for a film. The trilogy received wide praise for the cast and for the innovative practical and digital special effects. As we can see this movie was not easy to made, thats why we can see its complexity during the presentation of the three movies, that means that we can find a variety of shots and angles, from wide shots, for the entire view of the scenes which the movies takes places, in huge castle to close up shots to show character's mood.
Jackson began storyboarding the trilogy with Christian Rivers in August 1997 and assigned his crew to begin designing Middle-earth at the same time.For this film Jackson hired long time Richard Taylor to lead Weta Workshop on five major designa elements: armour, weapons, make-up, creatures, and miniatures. Th photography for this film had locations in New Zealand's conservation areas and national parks between 11 October 1999, and 22 December 2000, a period of 438 days. The trilogy of this movie was shot at over 150 different locations,with seven different units shooting, as well as soundstages around Wellington and Queenstown. It's amazing how this huge production made over 540 effect shots in the first movie, the second 799, and the third 1,488 , making a total of 2,730 in total effects. The total increases to 3,420 with the extended editions. 260 visual effect artists began work on the trilogy, and the number doubled by The Two Towers. The crew, led by Jim Rygiel and Randy Cook, worked long hours, often overnight, to produce special effects within a short space of time.
This movie took over many sound technics in which they spent almost one year to find the right sounds, such as animal sounds human voices were also used.
The technicians worked with New Zealand locals to get many of the sounds.

The LOTR is a very good movie. The special effects used in it arr wonderful and the story in itself is never boring. A classic.
